“Don’t Disturb”

Liverpool – a small city compared to NYC but still it’s the place to be: Jimi Hendrix, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Queen and of course The Beatles have played in the famous Cavern Club. It was there where The Beatles began to conquer the world in the 60s. Forty years later five students form the University of Siegen visited Liverpool, which turned out to be a turning point in their lives. What happened on Sunday, September 14th, in the World Museum in Liverpool?

After leaving their simple home in Salisbury Hall they had a good English breakfast in the mysterious Carnetic Hall (what does that mean? Only Cathy knows!)

On their way to the World Museum they saw the preparations for a big military event. But culture is more important than glory so they visited the museum’s aquarium and became acquainted with a fish which looked like a snail with flippers. Other strange and moreover horrifying animals like the German and the American Cockroaches were impressive exhibits.

A must see was of course the music section of the museum. Here in the exhibition ‘The Beat Goes On’ they obtained an overview of famous bands coming from Liverpool. Several “telephones” offered the visitor the opportunity to listen to original songs from different decades. But there were also other interactive facilities, for example a recording studio.

They became inspired and decided not only to “talk the talk but to walk the walk”: Their mission was to ‘Join the Band’ – another interactive facility in this exhibition. Yeah, let’s do it!  The time had come to dress for the concert and to tune the instruments, which were blow-up versions of real instruments – thanks to modern technology. The attached photo is a document of an essential moment in their career. ‘Don’t disturb The Material’ was the glorious name of the band, starring Larissa and Christiane as lead singers, Sören and Stefan on the guitar and last but not least Patrizia and Milena on the saxophone. Soon their first single ‘The River Mersey’ will be out – a rocking up-tempo version of the traditional Liverpudlian folk song.

To relax after the show the band planned to visit the museum’s planetarium and ordered tickets for 1:45 pm. Unfortunately they spent too much time in the cafeteria and had to wait too long for the elevator. When they arrived at 1:47 pm, entry wasn’t possible any longer – “Don’t disturb this material” which means in this case “Don’t disturb the other spectators”.
